Tips removing stock pignion - installing 24t pignion

Messages recommandés

Hi everyone!

For some reason I can not find info about this subject, while I know there is info in the forum.

Soon I shall swap my 26t front pulley/pignion for a 24t. Who has done this him/herself and is willing to share their thoughts? My biggest challenge is keeping the bearing undamaged while it is really a tight fit.

I got a hydraulic press and Grease J to begin with.

Hi, you can see this post in page 2, I’ve changed the bear not the pignion but you can see some pictures and explanations:

I hope it will be helpful for you.

Bye.

Hi Fred thanks for your link!/

Like you, I installed a new bearing because I had the same problems. I have my belt tension at 78 Hz, but after reading your post I will also lower my belt tension after installing the 24t.

To keep the bearing undamaged I will try to lock it in place at the edge of the bearing when I apply pressure to the pinion gear. Beforehand I leave the pinion in the freezer overnight.

Next week, when the idler arrives, it will be installed.

After taken another look at the technical drawing and service manual of the drive belt with its housing, pinion and crown it seems impossible not to stress the bearing when removing the pinion. When installing the pinion in its housing it seems no problem.
